Hatman owned a hat store selling season-specific hats which were so elaborate and comfortable that they outshined among other hat industry.For a long period, the market was full of the artifacts made by Hatman.Hence, he really made a huge fortune from his popular hats.

      However,not everyone welcomed the cosy hats,one of whom is Baldman.Baldman was no match for Hatman when it comes to commerce.He was such a green-eyed monster that he was always preoccupied with finding an approach to keep Hatman’s success at bay.Eventually, he came up with an idea to purchase a second-hand hat with tear and wear on it and put the label of a Hatman’s newly produced hat on it .He then knowingly pressed charges against Hatman for the quality issue,triggering a public debate on whether Hatman’s hats were really guaranteed for 3 years as was said on the label.

The case got on judge’s nerves for the sake that it was the fifth quality-related case that had happened in the town. The testimony from Hatman read ,”My family started form scratch in hat market since my great great-grandfather,which can be proved by the cultural relics at the margin of our town where my ancestor once made hats. We have won well-earned reputation among people in the town because we hardly manufacture faulty products and trade our hats honestly. By no means will I allow myself to play tricks on customers. I will immediately sign the confession provided I have truly produced a single crappy hat.” However, on Baldman’s far-fetched indictment lied only a few lines of words,”Hatman’s shabby hat is enclosed in the indictment, indicating that Hatman is of no credit. He also watched a film featuring a sexy girl last Friday, pointing out that Hatman is so idle about his business that he is more dedicated to enjoying his leisure days than making a good hat.”

According to the survey conducted by the jury, Hatman was on good terms with workers and customers while Baldman, on the contrary, wasn’t on speaking terms with anyone for his dishonesty. In the survey, many people perceived Hatman as kind and innocent and his hats had brought them untold benefits. For example, many reached common ground that Hatman’s winter hats protected them from annoying frost-bite. It is self-evident that Baldman was likely to tell a lie, but anyhow the judge investigated the case in person in order to avoid potential prejudice. He first quietly broke into Hatman’s industry with police’s warrant in the middle of the manufacturing to see the original working of Hatman’s industry. Checking every corner of the industry, he didn’t find any material used on the Baldman’s hat, so the hat was made elsewhere. Next, he visited Mudman, the expert in archaeology, to verify whether the historical sites of Hatman’s family existed, ending up with sure answer. He pieced together a sure situation where Baldman tried to destroy Hatman’s fame.

Back to the court, the case was at a critical moment when the jury was heatly debating on the case while waiting the judge to return with definite keys to the case. Certainly the judge did it. Everyone was excited except Baldman who guessed from the judge’s sharp eyes that his effort was ultimately self-defeating. As the last vain struggle, he raised the fake hat when he was hearing the judge’s pronounce, trying to justify his means. Hatman was proved innocent and Baldman sentenced to 10 years for defamation in the judge’s pronounce. To everyone’s surprise, Hatman gave up the permission granted to send Baldman to jail. He thought that humans are falliable and decided to give Baldman a chance to turn over a new leaf. Every man including judge and jury highly appreciated the determination, considering it as far-reaching. Baldman burst into tears, who had never thought of his rival’s forgiveness.
